Euro-Reef RC80 Protein Skimmer
After talking to Jeff at Euro-Reef I decided that I should get a new skimmer from them. I had a ES5-2 in the past and loved it but sold it to my brother-in-law so I could try out a Reef Mania skimmer. I have currently used the Reef Mania skimmer for about 2yrs I believe and I have liked it but have felt it was too oversized for my tank and thus it wasn't as efficient as it could be.
Jeff helped me design a Custom RC80 to fit in my small sump space...and I guess I am the FIRST person to have ANY RC80 skimmer from Euro-Reef.!!
Enough talk on w/ the unpacking pictures
5min after start up full sump pic 5 min after start up
LOOK AT ALL THE TINY BUBBLES!! micro jet pump feeding the skimmer (117gph before head)
top view of sump side shot that shows the union for the feed pump
2 days after start up - still breaking in!
the skimmate is a little wet as i flooded it w/ a little when i was adjusting it. and i ONLY was pulling skimmate for about 1-1.5days. the first 12hrs it was set to low (see 1st pic)
1st 12 hrs of running - set too low
~1.5 days worth of skimmate - hope as the break-in goes i pull off darker skimmate
ok these ball valve are TOO COOL!! they are adjustable and are not like the crappy ones that the hardware store has. they are nice and smooth to make tiny adjustments
if you take the ballvalve apart you can use the handle to loosen the top a little till it is loose enough for fine adjustments!! very nice! and way smaller then gatevalves
~4-5days and 3/4 of a cup of skimmate after 1-1.5wks of breaking in. i need to lower the level in the skimmer just a touch to dry out the foam a little more
4-5days worth of skimmate. skimmer makes some very nice foam now and i pull off some pretty nice stuff. i'm very pleased w/ the skimmer!
